Happy New Design Year!
Happy New Design Year 2023!
1. 2023 Color of the Year: O, what fun! Pantone’s color of the year for 2023 is Viva-Magenta 18-1750. It is a rich, blue-based cochineal red that looks like a mixture of raspberry and a teaspoon of burgundy. However, one sees it, Viva Magenta is bold, bright, and bodacious. https://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year/2023
2. Fashion and Color: As a rule of thumb, haute couture color is typically seen in fabric, paint, and wallpaper color ways the following year. For example, following several seasons of neon pink and electric blue, Valentino has shifted to neutrals for his Spring 2023 collection. Specifically, one will see black, white, beige, and blush in both women and men’s clothes. In 2024, expect to see interior design colors shift to neutral. https://www.wmagazine.com/fashion/valentino-spring-2023-paris-fashion-week-review
3. One more thing regarding 2023 color: According to Veranda Magazine, “People are thinking about how they can mix different color stories together to create a personal space that is completely unique to them.” (Note: Creating your unique home is the fundamental tenet of Pricelli.) Veranda writes that there are six color ways to consider in 2023: “impactful reds and oranges, marvelous magenta, unexpected greens, crafted shades, elevated blush, and alternatives to black.” https://www.veranda.com/decorating-ideas/color-ideas/g41769920/color-trends-2023/
4. Design 2023: Following years of mid-century modern, a return to Angolmania is quietly re-emerging. Think Chippendale furniture, bright chintz, chinoiserie wallpaper, Victorian wicker, and large potted areca palms. Before one phones Habitat to come to fetch grandmother’s Sheraton-style sideboard, think again. The sideboard can make a beautiful statement piece and anchor a room in an otherwise contemporary (mid-century modern) setting. Add a potted areca palm and you are good to go! https://www.elisabethjamesantiques.co.uk/antique-furniture.htm
Wishing all a very happy and productive year!
